Honouring The Ramsay Family
Karen Ramsay, former Junior Committee and Board Director.
As Sunnybank Rugby Union enters a new era of leadership, it’s time to reflect on the profound impact of Karen Ramsay, President of the Junior Rugby Committee, whose dedication to the club has spanned over four decades.
Karen has been a key figure in our club, building a legacy rooted in commitment, passion, and the values that define #BleedGreen. Throughout her tenure, she has worn many hats, each with heart and purpose. Her work, supported by the tireless contributions of the Ramsay and Hutchings families, has left a lasting imprint on the lives of countless members who have passed through our grounds.
This sense of camaraderie was never more evident than during one of the hardest chapters for our Dragon family—the loss of coach Mick. In their time of need, the community rallied, proving that we are strongest together.
Though Karen’s role as Junior Committee has come to an end, the Ramsay family legacy remains strong, particularly through the continuation of The Mick Ramsay Academy-a player development training program at Sunnybank Rugby Union.
The Mick Ramsay Academy honours the late Mick Ramsay, a beloved coach who dedicated over 10 years to developing local talent at Sunnybank Rugby Union. Mick’s vision was simple: to create a pathway for junior rugby players to excel. This academy carries that mission forward, providing a platform for both male and female Junior Colts players to develop their rugby skills.
But the academy offers more than just technical training. It’s about building mental resilience, leadership, and fostering community involvement. This holistic approach ensures that players have the tools to succeed both on and off the field, carrying forward Mick’s legacy of nurturing the next generation of rugby stars.
The contributions of Karen, Mick, Gemma, and Tate are firmly embedded in our dragon DNA, and we will continue to honour that legacy and make them proud. 💚
Karen Ramsay’s story is a testament to the heart and soul of our Dragon volunteering community. Watch to hear more about Karen’s journey who reminds us to honour our past, strengthen our present, and inspire generations to come.
