At Sunnybank Rugby Union, we prioritise building skills, teamwork, and community, creating a family-friendly atmosphere that supports players of all ages and skill levels.
From our Little Dragons to Junior Colts and age groups, our junior programs are designed to foster growth both on and off the field, focusing on individual skills, fitness, and teamwork in an inclusive and supportive setting.
Our coaching covers everything from the basics of catch and pass to more advanced skills like kicking, defense, contact, and tackling. We collaborate with coaches and managers to ensure each team is placed competitively within the BJRU grades, while also addressing the individual goals and needs of each player to help them excel in the current season and beyond.
Beyond the field, we offer a stable and nurturing environment that enables players and their families to challenge themselves, build confidence, and access strong administrative support and communication, excellent facilities, and the resources needed to succeed at every stage of their rugby journey.

JUNIOR COLTS
This is where players take their game to the next level, honing their skills while diving into more strategic and exciting aspects of rugby. It’s a time for mastering key techniques, making smart decisions on the field, and working as a team to outplay the opposition. With a focus on healthy competition and personal growth, this stage prepares players for the senior grades ahead, building confidence, resilience and continuing their passion for the game.

JUNIORS 10-U16
As the field grows, the game starts to resemble full rugby. Players explore their abilities while refining essential skills like tackling, passing, running, and honing position-specific roles. It’s all about developing in a fun, supportive environment with more structured coaching. Our players are encouraged to think on their feet and make technical and tactical decisions during games, helping them grow both individually and as a team, while preparing for pathways into junior colts and representative teams.

JUNIORS U6-U9
For our U6 to U9 players, the focus is on fun, running with the ball, and scoring tries—just like the heroes they see on TV or in their families. Through small-sided games, they develop a love for rugby while learning the concepts of safe tackling and preparing them with endurance for larger field sizes and longer games. It’s all about building confidence, enjoying the game, and expanding their rugby skillset with and without the ball.

LITTLE DRAGONS
Little Dragons is all about the joy of rugby! Designed for young boys and girls preparing for Under 6 Rugby, it’s a mix of fun games, exciting drills, and the basics of catching and passing—always with plenty of smiles. Our youngest players make new friends, boost their confidence, and start learning to follow the guidance of our coaches, setting the foundation for a lifelong love of the game.
